Sometimes we get quilts in that are not perfectly square which can often leave puckers. What I do is spray the area with spray starch and let it dry, which will cause the fabric to shrink slightly, often taking away the pucker.

I use the spray basting adhesive which holds the padding to the backing and the pieced part to the padding. I use the quilt as you go method and the adhesive works great.  It can be found at Walmart and Joann's Fabrics.
